2023-00109King County Library System (KCLS) is seeking an Automated Material Handling (AMH) Service Specialist with direct experience in high speed material handling systems, an aptitude for hands-on mechanical work, and a passion for continuous improvement.
This position reports to the AMH Supervisor as part of a technical support team responsible for troubleshooting the daily operations of a large and complex Automated Material Handling system located at the shipping facility in Preston, WA and 21 additional material handling equipment located in libraries throughout the county.
The KCLS Materials Distribution Services (MDS) Center is an integral part of the library system's successful circulation of materials.
An average of 6,500 - 7,000 items per hour are processed with daily production ranging from 31,000 - 41,000 items per day.
About the opportunity:
As the AMH Service Specialist you will help maintain the ongoing integrity of the production and operations of the AMH system by troubleshooting and repairing technical issues quickly and efficiently.
This position will provide ongoing maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of the AMH system, Tote Kings and associated equipment.
You will anticipate and act on opportunities to continuously improve the system, ensuring that it runs at its full potential.
In this role you will provide dedicated and responsive customer service through technical support for AMH systems and other equipment to staff from a variety of library service points.
This includes coordinating status updates for mechanical errors as they occur and implementing solutions.

Examples of Duties Any of the following duties may be performed.

Performs routine maintenance on the AMH machinery and system that sorts all of the KCLS library materials in the main Materials Distribution Center.
This includes lubricating and cleaning AMH system parts, adjusting belts, and using specialized tools.
Replaces motors and drive belts as needed.
Provides daily preventative maintenance on the AMH machinery based on manufacturer recommendations.
Troubleshoots high and low voltage electrical components.
Provides repair and maintenance of Tote Kings.
Provides repair and maintenance of Holds Locker units.
Communicates with manufacturers to troubleshoot any issues that occur.
Develops and maintains ongoing relationship and strategies with vendor to optimize the system's performance.
Orders and maintains parts needed to keep system operational.
Works with vendors and the KCLS purchasing department to ensure adequate inventory and timely delivery of essential parts.
Documents system's setup.
Creates, maintains, and updates technical documentation and practices.
Learns, diagnoses, and maintains software and data interfaces between the AMH system and the Integrated Library System (ILS).
Provides training and technical assistance to maintenance personnel at various library locations on their Automated Materials equipment.
Assists with loading inbound materials and sort as necessary.
Secondary Duties:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in mechanical/electrical field.
Minimum three years' field related experience in the mechanical/electrical discipline with high-speed material handling systems.
The degree requirement may be substituted with five to eight years of experience in large inventory automated handling and robotics systems in combination with training specializing in mechanical/electrical field.
Or, any equivalent five to eight years of experience in large inventory automated handling and robotics systems in combination with training specializing in mechanical/electrical field.
