Summary:
Duties consist of the subscriber installation, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of FTTH local network, external plant, and field coordination with remote NOC.
FTTH Field Services work inside and outside of homes and businesses requiring both the skills to install and troubleshooting fiber connectivity, as well as, significant personal interaction with end-users.
Technicians should have working knowledge of various electronic components, including routers, network gateways, and consumer computers.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for customer service, strong self-management ethic, and understanding of FTTH installation and troubleshooting.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Complete new installations of new subscriber requests for FTTH services.
Pull and termination of fiber optics cable to home from vault.
Complete necessary splicing with supplied splicing equipment.
Testing and verification of fiber via OTDR/Power metering.
Installation of home gateway and related devices.
Connect and test of connectivity from home to network.
Update as-builts and allocation of network and service details in provisioning and ticket systems.
Review, complete troubleshooting actions and update of tickets related to troubleshooting subscriber's connectivity.
Work with the remote NOC on troubleshooting and hands related activities as they relate to the network.
Complete subscriber installation of VoIP solution and other network services as needed.
Regular review of data center facilities for proper operation, general maintenance, and update log of pertinent metrics of infrastructure.
Be available to be on-call for emergency calls related to the FTTH network.
Present a positive on-site presence of FTTH to community customers and answer questions as needed regarding network and equipment.
REQUIREMENTS:
0-1 years experience or equivalent internet/fiber installations and outside plant construction.
0-1 years experience with Fiber installation equipment such as Signal Strength Meter, OTDR, fusion splicer, category cabling, and fiber.
Working knowledge of routers and general home networking.
0-1 years experience with computer networking, computers with various OSs, and related components.
Experience using machinery and hand tools.
Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills.
Punctual with consistent attendance.
Must be able to work flexible hours with the understanding that workdays can be in excess of normal hours and some weekend and holiday work may be required.
Ability to work well with others, as well as, working independently in the field without supervision.
Valid driver's license with good driving record.
Vehicle for use as travel to the job site.
High school diploma or the recognized equivalent.
POSITION DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, this position will require working in inclement weather conditions.
The duties of this position frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
Duties also require working around high voltage systems and electricity.
Duties require regular work aloft and in tight places near and around subscriber buildings.
Duties involve standing, talking, hearing, using hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reaching with hands and arms.
This position is frequently required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stand, kneel, drive, reach, and smell.
Skill in operation of some of the listed equipment.
Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.
The employee must frequently push, pull, lift and/or carry up to 60 pounds and occasionally push, pull, lift and/or carry up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to pass a background check.
